Bombs Away, John Stewart
A notable passage over the weekend: John Stewart.
No, not the Daily Show host (he’s “Jon,” anyway). The songwriter.
Not quite Rock; not quite Country; not quite Folk — John Stewart was a pioneer of what is now generally called the Americana sound. It’s a style that goes back to the Band, Johnny Cash. the Grateful Dead, James Taylor — and maybe even the Kingston Trio, where Stewart first found fame.
Stewart penned a lot of hits for other people, including the Monkees Daybream Believer and Rosanne Cash’s Runaway Train. But he may be best known for his 1979 solo album “Bombs Away Dream Babies,” which produced a hit duet with Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, Gold.
Which seems like a good way to start the week: enjoy. (Some readers are reporting trouble with the embedded video. You can check it directly at YouTube here.)
