The Wrong Trousers: The World’s Best Bass, Mandolin, and Harp Trio

Last year, an unconventional High School trio made a big splash on YouTube with a quirky street performance of the Buggles’ classic “Video Killed the Radio Star.”
Pretty much anything done by The Wrong Trousers is going to snag that “quirky” label. That can’t be helped when your primary instrumentation is an upright bass, a mandolin, and a harp.
But forget the novelty angle for a moment. Here’s what you really need to know: The Wrong Trousers are brilliant. Really. And they’re not even old enough to drink in many of the venues they play.
The band — which consists of Kelsea Little, Joseph Lorgem and Mack Leighton– met through school music program in San Diego. It wasn’t long before they were jamming together, writing their own music, and participating in their school talent contest (which harpist Kelsea is quick to point out that they won).
Then came YouTube, and a quarter million new fans. That success helped push them toward the release of their first album, One and Counting, which came out last month.
Take a look for yourself. Here’s a segment from a CMT’s Java Jams featuring the band. Enjoy.
