Sexiest. Teacup. Ever.
Posted 7 Jan, 2008 under Design by Chris Baskind

Back in November, we introduced designer Joey Roth’s stylish interpretation of the teapot, the Sorapot (see Sexiest. Teapot. Ever.). It wasn’t long before Roth’s Sorapot was on Gizmodo and we were taking calls from Rachel Ray’s product people.
With the first Sorapots almost ready for delivery, Roth has been tinkering away at a companion teacup for the Sorapot. We’re pleased to be the first to bring you photos of the prototype.

The cup is clearly designed to complement Sorapot’s modern lines and glass brewing chamber. But unlike the Sorapot, there’s no stainless steel: just a deeply grooved, minimalist flange for a handle which flows smoothly below the cup to form a raised base.

So what do you think?
As a matter of follow-up, there were many questions in the comments to our original article about how the Sorapot is actually intended to be used. Roth has posted a short demonstration video, which we’re passing along below.

Definitely sexy. now I can finally have teacups as hot as the teapot. when are you going to make the cups?
It actually is almost identical to Captain Picard’s tea cup on Star Trek: The Next Generation. I actually bought one used on set.
Except that Picard’s cups had a black rounded handle going around the glass.
