The Song (Still) Remains the Same: Led Zeppelin Reunites, Rocks Hard

Led Zeppelin logoYou don’t have to be too much of a fanboy (or fangirl) to be of the opinion that Led Zeppelin invented hard rock.

Thunderous drums, driving bass — and guitars, front and center. Add Robert Plant’s searing vocals, and you’ve got the sound that has guided three decades of starry-eyed rock stars.

Zeppelin’s long, sad break-up was the end of an era. It also seemed rather final, with John Bonham’s death and the three survivors on less-than-cozy terms. Page and Plant were able to sufficiently patch things up to produce some notable project work (and a live version of Kashmir which perhaps surpasses the original). There were a couple of one-time appearances. But the possibility of a full-blown reunion seemed remote.

Which underlines the seismic impact of Monday’s Led Zeppelin concert at Greenwich’s O2 Arena. With Jason Bonham picking up his father’s sticks, Zeppelin ripped through their first full set in almost two decades at Greenwich’s O2 Arena.

Sounds as if the band still has its chops. With 20 thousand well-heeled fans on hand to witness the event, it’s no surprise some video is leaking out onto the net. we’ve tracked down a sample for your rockin’ enjoyment.

[Shockingly, it appears that YouTube has been busy taking down all the posted concert footage and the video that used to be below is no longer available. ZME Music has a great collection of concert photos here.]
