Make a Laptop Case from Floppy Disks
Once upon a time, those 3.5 inch floppies seemed pretty cool.
They beat the stew out of those 5¼ inch monsters for durability. And the storage — a whopping 1.44 MB on a single disk! You could even buy them in cool colors.
Today, it’s getting hard to find a computer that ships with a floppy drive. Mac users have done without them for years. Which means you probably have a drawer full of rotting floppies somewhere.
Over at TechEBlog, reader Stanislav has passed along a pretty cool solution for recycling old technology: a handmade laptop case made of 42 floppy disks.
All you need is a couple Windows 98 install sets, a drill, some metal clips, a bit of patience. Some sort of interior liner would be a nice addition, but darn of the thing doesn’t look pretty durable. Carry one of these, and you are the most geek.
