Finnish Stockboys Turn Market into a Giant Domino Train

Posted 25 Mar, 2008 under Video by Chris Baskind | 1 Comment

Ever wonder what those stockboys are doing when your favorite store is closed?

At grocery in Finland, they’re playing dominoes — on an impressive scale. Marvel as this fully 6 minute long train of shipping palettes, plastic baskets, cases of drinks, and cereal boxes works its way up from the basement and through the aisles of an “undisclosed” Finnish market.

Coolest Old Guy o’ the Month: 93 Year Old Frank Milo Busted in Sex Sting

Posted 25 Mar, 2008 under Strange by Shea Gunther | Leave a Comment

old-man.jpgYou know, I kind of hope that I get caught in a sex sting when I’m 93 years old.

Tampa Bay Online has it:

MANATEE COUNTY - Prosecutors are moving ahead with a case against one of two 93-year-old men picked up during undercover prostitution stings.

In the case of Frank Milio, prosecutors have issued subpoenas and plan to take him to trial in April.

Milio, according to police records, tried to pay $20 in November to an undercover officer on 14th Street West.

Milio recently told the Herald-Tribune he was only flirting with the woman.

“I haven’t had that in years,” he said. “Ninety-three is kind of old.”

Carlos Underhill, 93, will not be charged, although he does not deny stopping to chat with the “good-looking girl” who made eyes at him and turned out to be an undercover officer.

Police say Underhill was willing to pay $30 for sex and that he promised to come back a few hours later to consummate the deal.

I bet he had to come back a few hours after paying so his Vitamin V could kick in. I feel bad he got caught, I hope his luck is better next time.

Hallelujah! It’s raining McCain

Plenty of political snarfage on the plate today.

No matter where you fall in your preference for the 2008 U.S. Presidential elections, by now, you’ve probably seen some of the campaign music videos produced by the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton camps.

While Clinton video was the subject of some uncharitable comments for its over-the-top “Up With People” styled cheesiness, at least both Democratic campaigns understood the power of viral video.

Now the McCain camp is getting into the game with a group calling itself the McCain Girls. You get to decide whether this is a sanctioned video gone awry or out-and-out parody.

Hillary Clinton’s 3 AM Girl Grows Up and Pitches for Barack Obama

I love this. Casey Knowles is a young woman from Washington State who did some acting for a stock video producer eight years ago. A few weeks ago she was surprised to see herself in an ad for Hillary Clinton, an ad that has since become known as the 3 AM Ad for it’s premise that Hillary would be a better choice than Obama to take an emergency phone call in the middle of the night. Hillary would be better at keeping kids safe, or so says the ad.

Watch it here:

The problem is, at least for Hilldog, is that Casey Knowles is a Barack Obama backer. A big time backer- she served as a Obama precinct captain during the Washington State Democratic caucuses.

Someone over at the Omaba campaign picked up on this and jumped to make a counter commercial staring the now 17 year old Casey Knowles. She makes it pretty clear who she thinks should be answering that phone and it’s not Mrs. Clinton.

I loves me the innerwebs.

Holy Fracking Frack: Boomerangs Work in Space

boomerang.jpg

I don’t know why, but this is some of the coolest news I’ve heard in a long while.

Boomerangs work in space.

ABC News has it:

Astronaut Takao Doi “threw a boomerang and saw it come back” during his free time on March 18 at the International Space Station (ISS), a spokeswoman at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said.

Mr Doi threw the boomerang after a request from compatriot Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion.

“I was very surprised and moved to see that it flew the same way it does on Earth,” the Mainichi Shimbun daily quoted the 53-year-old astronaut as telling his wife in a chat from space.

I don’t know how exactly a boomerang can work in space, but it’s pretty fracking cool if it’s true.

81 Year Old Man Builds Robot To Shoot Him In the Head in His Driveway

killer-robot.jpg

81 Year old Francis Tovey allegedly built a special suicide robot. It was programmed to fire multiple shots from a .22 semi-automatic pistol. The robot fired into Mr. Torvey’s head in his driveway; he is reported to have chosen the driveway because he knew workmen next door would quickly find his body.

I don’t know, but it sounds kinda dodgy to me. How do we know we’re not dealing with an ultra sophisticated killer robot from the future here? It could be disguised to look like something built with a jigsaw power tool. I wouldn’t wan to work at the police evident room- you know that thing is going to break out in a violent orgy of mayhem.

Florida Moves to Outlaw Droopy Pants

Posted 19 Mar, 2008 under Fashion by Chris Baskind | 1 Comment

Droopy pants

Pull those britches up, kid.

That’s the message being sent by Florida legislators to the state’s public school students. If a Senate bill survives the state House of Representatives and is signed into law, droopy pants will become grounds for suspension, not just suspenders.

Rapping Droopy Drawers

Orlando legislator Gary Siplin, a Democrat, is the bill’s Senator sponsor. He says the fashion of half-pulled-up pants got started among prisoners cruising for sex. It was popularized by rap artists before becoming popular with teenagers and young adults.

Florida lawmakers — fresh from again throwing the country’s presidential primaries into a state of chaos — apparently feel strongly enough about droopy britches to make it the law of the land. But the student-only ban is mild compared one approved last week by voters in the Panhandle resport community of Riviera Beach. Police there now have the authority to ticket anyone caught with their pants down.

Hard Time

Riviera residents running afoul of the saggy pants ordinance will face $150 fines on the first offense, $250 for the second, and up to 60 days in jail for habitual fashion violations.

At least jailed wrongdoers will know how to signal they’re in the mood.
